| GENERAL PATIENT
CARE
As mentioned on our home page, Plantation Gynecology is a solo
practice devoted solely to the care of females and encompasses
all aspects of the female reproductive system. This includes
oncology, office gynecology, infertility, sexual counseling,
endocrinology, urogynecology (the treatment of urinary disorders
and incontinence), gynecologic surgery (including cancer), and
menopausal medicine.
There is a strong emphasis on office
and outpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures. In the office,
diseases of the cervix, vagina, and vulva are treated with cryotherapy
or LEEP. Bleeding
problems, infertility, and diseases of the uterine cavity are
evaluated by office hysteroscopy.
The
diagnosis and treatment of most causes of pelvic pain and infertility
is usually performed in an outpatient setting using the
Laparoscope combined
with medical lasers and other specialized instruments. To diagnose
and treat problems of abnormal uterine bleeding a hysteroscope
is
employed to view the uterine cavity and remove abnormal tissue.
As an alternative to hysterectomy for bleeding problems, a relatively
new outpatient procedure - Endometrial
Ablation -
can be performed with the hysteroscope in selected patients.
When removal of the uterus, ovaries, or fibroids is indicated,
a laparoscopic approach is often taken. Select cases of urinary
incontinence can also be treated laparoscopically. Other cases
may require bladder neck suspension or a Suburethral
sling.
Ultrasound
exams, urodynamics
and cystoscopy are also
conducted in our offices.
For
you, the patient, the value of these procedures lies in significant
cost savings and the avoidance of large incisions and discomfort,
prolonged hospitalization, and lengthy postoperative recovery.
